Service Description

This Class will focus on one of the darling of the grape world - Syrah. In this class we will explore the varietal expression from both origin place in France, and also from Washington. Typicity in wine is a collaboration between nature and people. In this special Master Class, Tanya Morning Star Darling will be joined by Winemaker and Sommelier Nakenge Adisa to explore the nuance of factors, which contribute to a wine’s identity, including: soil, climate, winemaking traditions, vineyard practices and more. A focused sensory exploration Washington & French SYrah wines will form the basis for discovering what makes these wines so iconic and unique. Students will also learn to think critically about origins and elements of wine’s sensory identity. NaKenge Adisa is a Winemaker and Certified sommelier, with degrees in Winemaking, Viticulture, Culinary Arts, and Global Studies. He is also an experienced educator and advocate for inclusive experiences in food and wine. As a sommelier, and wine director NaKenge has worked at lauded PNW restaurants such as Canlis, Goldfinch Cafe at the Four Seasons hotel, and others. In his career as a winemaker, NaKenge was Washington State’s first Black winemaker, and over the years has made wine for Washington icons such as: Efeste, Delille, Leonetti, Corliss and Rasa Vineyards before launching his own label Parousia Cellar, whose first vintage will be released into the world in 2022. Tanya Morning Star Darling is a full-time Wine Educator who is deeply interested in the why and how of wine - the intersection between nature, and human cultural heritage. Her School, Cellar Muse is the approved program provider for the Wine Scholar Guild certifications, and Tanya is an approved instructor for WSET Levels 1-4. Tanya recently created an online Wine History Course for the Napa Valley Wine Academy, and has launched an online Member learning porthole through her own website. She is also proud to be the Official Educational Ambassador of Orvieto Wines, a VIA Italian Wine Ambassador, and an official Ambassador of Bourgogne Wine.
